According to the policies approved by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the contact information a domain is registered with must be valid and up to date all the time. What’s more, this info is publicly available on WHOIS websites and while this may be okay for firms, it may not be very convenient for individuals, since everybody can see their names and their personal postal and email addresses, particularly in an age when identity theft is not that atypical. For this reason, domain name registrars have introduced a service that hides the details of their clients without editing them. The service is called ID Protection, WHOIS Protection or Privacy Protection. If it’s enabled, people will view the details of the registrar company, not those of the domain owner, if they make a WHOIS lookup. The ID Protection service is supported by all generic domain extensions, but it is still impossible to hide your personal info with some country-code extensions.
ID Protection in Web Hosting
If you get a web hosting plan from our company, you will be able to activate ID Protection for any of your domains as long as their extensions support the service. You can register/transfer a domain name and enable ID Protection during the registration process or you can activate the service for any of your domains at any time later through the Hepsia hosting Control Panel. The procedure is astonishingly easy – after you log in, you will need to visit the Registered Domains section where you’ll notice a list of all the domains that you’ve registered with us. For each one of them you will see an “ID Protect” symbol, which will inform you if the service is enabled or not. By clicking on it, you can either ID-protect the domain, or you can turn off the service if it is currently enabled.
ID Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you want to hide the contact information for your domain and you’ve got a semi-dedicated server account with us, you will be able to add our ID Protection service either during the registration process or at any time later through our Hepsia Control Panel. The service is optional and can be enabled with a few clicks of the mouse from the Control Panel’s Registered Domains section where all the domains that you’ve registered with our company will be displayed alphabetically. You can order ID Protection for any of the extensions that support this service by simply clicking on the “ID Protect” icon to the right of each domain. In the same fashion, you can also renew the ID Protection service or deactivate it – if you wish to transfer a domain to some other company and you need the real email associated with the domain name to be visible.
