AAAA is a domain address record, that's in essence the IPv6 address of the web server where the domain is hosted. The IPv6 system was intended to replace the present IPv4 system in which every IP is made up of four groups of decimal digits which range from 1 to 255 e.g. On the other hand, an IPv6 address has eight sets of four hexadecimal numbers - from 0 to 9 and from A to F. The cause of this transformation is the tremendously smaller amount of unique IPs which the existing system supports and the fast increase of gadgets which are connected to the world wide web. A good example of an IPv6 address is 2101:1f34:32e2:2415:1365:4f2b:2553:1345. If you need to point a domain address to a machine which uses this kind of an address, you have to create an AAAA record for it, and not the commonly used A record, which is an IPv4 address. Both records deliver the exact same function, but different notations are used, in order to separate the two types of addresses.
AAAA Records in Web Hosting
If you'd like to set up a new AAAA record a domain address or subdomain hosted inside your web hosting account, it will not take you more than a couple of easy steps to do that. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel is very intuitive to use and is going to allow you to create or change every record without difficulty. Once you log in and visit the DNS Records section, in which you'll discover all current records for your domains and subdomains, you will simply have to click on the "New" button, pick out AAAA from a small drop-down options menu in the pop-up that'll show up, enter or paste the required IPv6 address and save the change - it is as simple as that. The new record will be fully live within no more than 1 hour and the hostname you have created it for is going to start opening whatever content you have with the other company. When required, you'll also be able to change the TTL (Time To Live) value, which reveals the time in seconds the new record will be active after you eventually edit it to something different or you simply delete it.
AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
In case you have a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you have to set up an AAAA record for a domain name you have hosted in it or a subdomain you've set up, it'll take you just a few clicks within the Hepsia CP to accomplish this. Even though you may have never had a website hosting account before, you will not face any issues as you will use a very simple and intuitive interface. All DNS records for your domains are going to be listed in a section of the CP with the exact same name, so as soon as you go there, you'll see all records that have been set up automatically or manually and you are going to be able to create a new one by simply clicking on the corresponding button. A small pop-up shall appear, so with only several mouse clicks you can choose the type of record you require and for which domain or subdomain it's going to be created. Afterwards, just paste the IPv6 address within a text box, save the change and one hour later the new AAAA record will be 100% functioning. As an optional setting, you can choose how long this record shall be active after you change it or erase it in the future. That is the so-called TTL, or Time To Live value of the record, which you can change from the standard 3600 seconds if the other provider requires it.
